Are you looking for an unusual Christmas present ? Here's an idea, produced by Sprochpolitik-Langue Alsacienne which promotes the Alsatian language. Thierry Kranzer and two English teacher, Evelyne Troxler and Fabien Gerges, have published a book of Alsatian Grammar and Conjugation, and we thought it might be a good present to sharte with the members for Christmas. contact sprochpolitik@gmail.com or 07 85 95 95 17

This first Alsatian grammar and conjugation book, containing 150 verbs, was requested by the Alsatians of Castroville, the Little Alsace of Texas. It is limited to the present and present perfect. The Texas Alsatian has the advantage of a certain linguistic uniformity, since only one dialect has become the received norm in this area. It can therefore be standardized.

The Alsatian that became established in Texas is the one spoken between Neuf-Brisach and Ensisheim, the Hardt plain, till Mulhouse and more specifically that of the Haby from Ober and Niederentzen and the Tschirhart family from Soppe-le-Haut (Obersulzbach) and their thousands of descendants in Texas. All the inhabitants of the Little Alsace of Texas, at some point, have had a Haby or Tschirhart mother in their family tree. They're the ones who passed on the now-uniform Texas Alsatian language.

In a 1980 interview, Blacky Tschirhart, author of the first English-Alsatian dictionnary, explains that his Hüsser grandparents never knew how to speak English.  Proof that it wasn't necessary at a time and in this part of Texas where everyone spoke Alsatian.  Today, this history offers us the opportunity to set a milestone for a form of standardized Alsatian from Texas.  History will do the rest.

Alsatians now have linguistic material that they owe to almost 200 years of linguistic fidelity demonstrated by their Texan cousins who left in 1843...
